A friend recently asked about our ADHD journey after reading some of my past blog posts. I realized that it had been quite a while since I've shared an update. My past posts can be found at the following links:

Yesterday was a very special day for our family...The Archangel was able to receive his First Holy Communion. He was so excited to receive Jesus for the first time & I was very proud of his reverence as he approached the altar. Our deacon asked if HandyGramps would be willing to be one of the cup distributors, so The Archangel received the Precious Blood from his grandpa. HandyGramps looked almost tearful when distributing to The Archangel. I did fine until I looked at my dad...I skipped over the "almost" & actually did have tears in my eyes.
Not only was HandyGramps there to take part in the Mass, but The Prophet was one of the altar servers, too.

My dear blogging friend, Judy, over at A Thankful Woman's Book of Blessings, hosts this meme every Wednesday. Simply list five things (or a prayer or any thoughts) for which you are truly thankful this week. Voicing my thanks helps put my life in perspective & realize that, no matter how bad things might be, there is still MUCH good surrounding me.
And finally, today we have five things for which The Archangel is thankful...

Here & there, I've mentioned that The Archangel has ADHD. I decided to do a series of posts to share our struggles we've faced as we try to find the balance between peace & chaos in our home.

My dear blogging friend, Judy over at A Thankful Woman's Book of Blessings, hosts this meme every Wednesday. Simply list five things (or a prayer or any thoughts) for which you are truly thankful this week. Voicing my thanks helps put my life in perspective & realize that, no matter how bad things might be, there is still MUCH good surrounding me.
1) I'm thankful that we're starting to see some positive results from The Archangel's new ADHD medicine. There's not a big change & we still have a ways to go, but after negative results from previous meds, this is somewhat encouraging.
2) I'm thankful for the wonderful homilies by our pastor & deacons. On Sunday, I was brought to tears by our pastor's words & last night, at the Holy Day Vigil Mass, he brought laughter.
3) Following up on #2, I'm thankful that The Prophet is learning from the homilies. I know it's tough for him to focus sometimes, so it's AWESOME when he can tell us what he's learned.
4) I'm thankful for the strong faith I see developing in The Princess. Whenever we ask her what she'd like for Christmas, she says she wants a Catholic room...books, statues, pictures, rosaries, etc. Every couple of days, she'll disappear up in her room for a while, then come downstairs w/ toys & books that she wants to give away...all in an effort to make room for her Catholic items.
5) This final one I type w/ a heavy heart...last night, my best friend's mom (who was like a second mother to me) passed away. My thanks in this sad time is that she is no longer suffering. I'm also thankful for having her in my life. She was truly a wonderful woman & will be greatly missed.

Last Friday was the Feast of St. Therese of Liseux. For school, we had a lesson about her including reading about her life & a scrapbook-type craft. (By the end of the school year, each of the munchkins will have their own handmade saint book.) We did our lesson on Thursday because we had plans to go to Wright Patterson Air Force Museum in Dayton w/ my parents, my sister, & her family on Friday.
On Friday, we decided to meet at our house & head to Dayton in two vans. My parents arrived first...bringing along a few things (as parents like to do!) My mom handed The Princess a small lap quilt that belonged to my great aunt when she was in a nursing home. After she died, my mom kept it then thought The Princess might like it. Because I was busy getting last minute things together, I didn't really take more than a glance at the quilt.
When we got home, she brought the quilt over to me so that I could see it. The first thing I noticed was the large pink rose in one of the squares. There were other flowers on the quilt, but it was the only square of its kind. Immediately I reminded her of what St. Therese said about sending a shower of roses from Heaven. She was absolutely thrilled! I told her that if she wanted, she could have St. Therese be her patron saint & she said, "YES!" w/ a big grin on her face. She slept under that quilt all that night.
And BTW - my great aunt's name? ROSE. She'd been ill as a child & her mind never grew beyond that of a young child. We always called her Rosie & she was an absolute sweetheart. We have a picture from the funeral home of The Prophet (about age 3) kneeling in front of her casket, with his eyes closed in prayer. The Archangel (about 18 months) is standing on the kneeler, next to The Prophet.

1) This is several memories in one: Growing up, there were MANY evenings my mom, sister, & I could be found in uncontrollable giggles. What usually set us off was some insignificant comment one of us might have made. One of us would start to giggle, then another, then all three of us would be laughing so hard we'd be crying. My dad would usually just walk out of the room shaking his head. The first time Casinodad witnessed this phenomenon, he didn't know what to think. Thankfully we were already married, otherwise he might have thought twice about staying w/ me!
2) A couple years ago, the six of us had gone to Taco Bell for lunch. On the way out, The Archangel was walking ahead, but turned back toward us talking. All of a sudden he ran right into the window next to the door...a full body run-in like you'd see in a comedy show. He bounced right back w/ this dazed look on his face, then bust out laughing. After making sure he was okay, we all joined in the laughter. He still brings up that time whenever we go into that Taco Bell.

The Archangel had always loved playing the classic Cootie game that my parents had at their house. So, for Christmas in 2006, a few months before he turned 4, my parents got him his own game. He was so excited. "Now I have Cooties like Grandma!"

Lord God, Who has graciously chosen St. Dymphna to be the patroness of those afflicted with mental and nervous disorders, and has caused her to be an inspiration and a symbol of charity to the thousands who invoke her intercession, grant through the prayers of this pure, youthful martyr, relief and consolation to all who suffer from these disturbances, and especially to those for whom we now pray. (Here mention those for whom you wish to pray.)
We beg You to accept and grant the prayers of St. Dymphna on our behalf. Grant to those we have particularly recommended patience in their sufferings and resignation to Your Divine Will. Fill them with hope and, if it is according to Your Divine Plan, bestow upon them the cure they so earnestly desire. Grant this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
