Many years ago, those w/ mental & developmental disabilities were left to an institution. Because they were not "normal", society felt they would have nothing to contribute & would only be a burden.
Thankfully, times have changed! There are so many opportunities for those w/ disabilities...therapies, jobs, group homes, & so much more. There was one lady who would greet shoppers at a local grocery store. It was a wonderful learning experience for our Blessings to see her & communicate w/ her whenever we went in. She was always so cheerful & asked how the kids were doing, while handing out samples from the bakery. Once we'd get out to the car, they'd all comment about how nice she was.
Today I'm sharing about a mentally disabled couple in New York, a couple who recently married & are finally able to live together in an apartment instead of separate rooms in a group home. Lawsuits are pending currently towards their previous group homes because neither would accommodate the couple.
