Light in the Darkness

Welcome to my Light in the Darkness meme! (If you missed my post on the inspiration for this meme, you can read all about it HERE.)

This is the place to share good things that are happening in our world...whether it's a link to a news article/video, something from your personal experience...anything good that can bring light into darkness!
***************
Don't you just LOVE when the Holy Spirit catches your attention? Yesterday was one of those days for me. The Mass readings served as the best affirmation for this link-up that I host each week.

Isaiah 58:7-10 starts:
Thus says the Lord:
Share your bread with the hungry,
shelter the oppressed and the homeless;
clothe the naked when you see them,
and do not turn your back on your own.
Then your light shall break forth like the dawn,
and our wound shall quickly be healed.
Isaiah ends with:
Then light shall rise for you in the darkness,
and the gloom shall become for you like midday.
Then, we have the Gospel of Matthew 5:13-16, when Jesus tells His disciples, "You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned?...You are the light of the world."

Our pastor, gave yet another of his wonderful homilies (he's had some awesome, inspiring ones in recent months). He asked several parishioners if they were being salt of the earth...if they were spreading light in the darkness. He then called our attention to Pope Francis. He said that in just the first 15 minutes of his pontificate, Pope Francis exemplified these readings. And he has continued to set tremendous examples & set high expectations for his flock as he encourages love & care of those less fortunate than ourselves.

Now I would like to share what my dear hubby, Matthew, did this past week. During his morning prayers last Wednesday, he heard a car spinning its wheels in the cul-de-sac in front of our house. We'd had about 4-5 inches of snow overnight & the car had gotten stuck in the road, not yet plowed (& still not plowed five days later!)

Matt donned his snow boots, hat, gloves, & heavy coat, grabbed two of our shovels, then headed out to help dig the young man out. It took the two of them & another neighbor about half an hour to dig the car out.

He did waiver a bit before going out, but finally realized that if he had been the one stuck out there, he would have wanted & needed some assistance. I am so proud of his efforts & for the example he set for our Blessings (who were awakened by the car's spinning).
